A closer look at 316
Explore 316 fastener options and describe the environment so the exact material and mechanical requirements can be confirmed.
316 is an austenitic stainless steel containing molybdenum. Compared with 304, it generally offers improved resistance to chloride pitting. The application conditions still matter when choosing a fastener.

Describe the service environment
Include chloride or salt exposure, chemical concentration, temperature and whether the joint will remain wet or immersed. Crevices and cleaning conditions also affect material selection. A 316 label is not a universal guarantee for seawater or chemical service.
